What is Paradise Valley?
Paradise Valley is part of the Tamraght river valley in the foothills of the High Atlas, near the village of Aksri on the road to Imouzzer Ida Outanane. Water flows from the mountains into a narrow canyon of pink and orange rock, creating natural pools of green and turquoise water surrounded by palm trees. It became famous in the 1960s and 1970s when hippies and musicians travelled through Morocco, and it is still one of the most photographed places near Agadir.
How do you get to Paradise Valley from Agadir?
The road follows the coast north to Aourir, then turns inland along the famous Honey Road, named after the beekeepers who sell local honey on the roadside. The drive is about 45 minutes to one hour through Berber villages and argan trees.
- Organised tour: the easiest option. Pickup from your hotel, a guide for the walk and return by lunchtime. See our Paradise Valley half-day trip.
- Taxi: a grand taxi for the day is possible but you need to agree the price and waiting time in advance.
- Rental car: the road is paved; parking is near the start of the path.
When is the best time to visit?
The pools depend on rainfall in the mountains. Spring (March to June) is usually the best season, with more water and pleasant temperatures. In late summer some pools can be shallow, and after heavy rain in winter the path can be closed for safety. Go in the morning to avoid the crowds and the midday heat.
Can you swim in Paradise Valley?
Yes, you can swim in the natural pools when the water level allows it. Some people jump from the rocks, but only do this where the local guides confirm the water is deep enough. The water is cool all year, which feels great in summer.
What should you bring?
- Swimwear and a small towel
- Comfortable shoes or sandals with grip for the rocky path
- Sunscreen, a hat and water
- Some dirhams for a drink or a fresh orange juice at the small cafés by the pools
What to expect on a Paradise Valley tour
- Hotel pickup in Agadir or Taghazout in the morning.
- Drive along the Honey Road with a photo stop.
- Walk to the pools with your guide (20 to 30 minutes).
- Free time to swim, relax and take photos.
- Return to your hotel around lunchtime.

How to visit Paradise Valley on your own
- Get there: drive or take a grand taxi north to Aourir, then follow the signs inland towards Imouzzer Ida Outanane on the Honey Road.
- Park: you will see cafés and small parking areas near the start of the trail; parking attendants usually ask for a small fee.
- Walk: follow the river path upstream for 20 to 30 minutes until you reach the main pools.
- Return: leave before late afternoon, because the light fades early in the canyon and the mountain road is slower in the dark.
Going alone is possible, but a guided half-day trip saves you the negotiation with taxis, and the guide knows which pools are safe for swimming that day.
Paradise Valley, Tizgui or Imouzzer: which one to choose?
| Place | Best for | Crowds |
|---|---|---|
| Paradise Valley | Classic turquoise pools and palm canyon | Busy at weekends |
| Tizgui Valley | Quiet rock pools and Berber villages | Few visitors |
| Imouzzer Ida Outanane | Mountain scenery and seasonal waterfalls | Calm, further away |
Mistakes to avoid
- Wearing flip-flops: the rocks are smooth and slippery near the water.
- Jumping without checking: water depth changes every season; ask your guide first.
- Arriving at midday in summer: it is hot and crowded. Arrive in the morning.
- Leaving rubbish: the valley is fragile; take everything back with you.
What to combine with Paradise Valley
Paradise Valley takes only half a day, so you can combine it with something different in the afternoon. Our guide’s tip
“Walk a little further than the first big pool. Most visitors stop there, but ten minutes upstream there are quieter pools where you can swim in peace. And try the local honey sold on the road; it is one of the best in Morocco.” — Your YouTours guide
Paradise Valley in each season
Spring (March to June): the best time, with full pools, green palms and pleasant temperatures around 22 to 28°C. Summer (July to September): hot and busy, but the cool water is a real pleasure; go early. Autumn (October to November): fewer visitors and soft light, though some pools can be low before the first rains. Winter (December to February): fresh mornings and a quieter valley; after heavy rain the path can be closed for a few days, so we always check conditions before we leave.
